This page explains how SRD Status Check Za decides what to publish, where our facts come from and what happens when we get something wrong. Grants are money that people depend on. A wrong date or amount can cost someone a payment, so we hold every page to a strict standard.
Where our facts come from
We use four kinds of source, in this order of weight:
- SASSA’s own publications and portal. The main website at sassa.gov.za, the SRD portal at srd.sassa.gov.za and SASSA’s 2026 booklet, You and Your Grant.
- The Department of Social Development (DSD). Payment schedules and policy notices published on dsd.gov.za.
- gov.za. Government media statements, including statements issued by SASSA’s provincial offices.
- SAnews, the South African Government News Agency, for announcements and warnings.
Other websites, social media posts and videos are not sources. If a claim appears only there, we leave it out, or we describe it as reported and tell you to confirm it with SASSA. Every guide shows the date it was last checked.
The verification rule
We state a date, an amount, a rule or a contact detail as fact only when one of these is true:
- two of the sources above agree on it; or
- one official source states it and we have checked the live source again recently.
When neither is true, the page says what is not known. We do not fill the gap with a guess.
The labels we use
| Label | What it means |
|---|---|
| Confirmed | Stated by SASSA or another government source, and checked by us. |
| Observed | We saw it ourselves on an official page or portal screen, on a date we record, but no official source describes it. |
| Estimated | Our own reading. SASSA has not confirmed it, so treat it as a guide and not as a promise. |
| Not published | We found no source. We say so instead of inventing an answer. |
For example, SASSA does not publish a fixed SRD calendar. Any SRD pay-window date on this site is therefore marked Estimated or Not published, and your own pay day is the one shown on your status card.
How often we review
- Pay windows and official contacts: reviewed every week.
- Amounts and payment schedules: reviewed whenever an announcement is made.
- Every page: re-checked against its sources at least every 90 days, and we confirm the date shown at the top of the page each time.
Each page shows when it was last updated, and the footer of the site shows the date on which our facts were last checked.
How we handle screenshots
Our guides show screenshots of public official pages so that you can recognise the screens before you reach them. We capture them ourselves, record when we did so and replace them when the portal changes. ID, phone and bank numbers are covered with a solid block before an image is published. Portal screens change from time to time, so we note that yours may look slightly different. A screenshot explains a step. It is never a substitute for the live official page.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we fix it and we say so. Every correction and every significant update is recorded in our public corrections and updates log with its date, type, page and what changed. We do not rewrite a date, an amount or a rule quietly. To report a mistake, use our contact page.
When sources disagree
We show both versions, say where each one comes from and tell you which one we rely on and why. Three examples from this site:
- The WhatsApp number. SASSA’s 2026 booklet prints 082 054 0016. An April 2025 SAnews report printed 082 046 8553. We show the booklet number and mention the older one.
- The Foster Child Grant. SAnews and the Budget Review give R1,295. The DSD schedule page shows R1,290. We show both wherever the amount appears.
- The appeals address. The booklet lists srd.dsd.gov.za. Our June 2026 portal screenshots show appeals under srd.sassa.gov.za/appeals. We give both and tell you to reach the appeals link from the official portal.
Independence and advertising
- The site may show ads served by Google AdSense on some guide pages. Ads never appear on this page or on our other trust and policy pages.
- Advertising never decides what we write, which facts we include or how we word a warning.
- We take no payment to publish, change or remove information. We sell no paid placement and publish no sponsored guidance, and we will never present a paid message as advice.
- We do not promote loans, “approval” services or anything that claims to speed up a grant.
How we use drafting tools, including AI
Drafting tools, including AI-based writing tools, may be used to help with outlines, first drafts, plain-language rewrites and proofreading. They are not a source of facts. Every guide is checked against the sources above and approved by an editor before it is published, and nothing a tool produces goes live without that check. The editor is accountable for what is published, whatever tools were used. You can read how roles work on our authors and reviewers page.
What this policy does not cover
We give information, not legal, financial or professional advice, and we cannot see anyone’s application. Our disclaimer sets out those limits in full.
