This policy explains what personal information SRD Status Check Za processes when you visit this website, why, and what choices you have. It is written with South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) in mind. It was last updated on 26 October 2026.

Summary

  • We do not ask for or collect ID numbers, phone numbers, bank details, PINs or OTPs.
  • Our tools run in your browser. Nothing you type into them is stored or sent anywhere.
  • Like most websites, our servers and content delivery network keep logs of visits: your IP address, your browser and the pages you open.
  • Analytics are used only if they are switched on, and only after you accept them in the cookie banner.
  • We use Google AdSense to show ads on some guide pages. Google and its partners use cookies to serve and personalise ads, and you can opt out.
  • If you choose another language in the header menu, Google Translate translates the page. Nothing is sent to Google for translation unless you choose a language.
  • Under POPIA you can ask to access, correct or delete your information and can object to its use. Email us to do so. You may also complain to the Information Regulator.

Who is responsible

SRD Status Check Za is an independent information website. We are not SASSA and not a government body. We are the responsible party, under POPIA, for the limited personal information described on this page. You can reach us at [email protected].

What we do not collect

We do not ask for or collect your ID number, your cellphone number, your bank details, your PIN or your OTP. The site has no accounts, no log-in and no contact form. Please never type any of these details into our site. To check your SRD status, use the official portal at srd.sassa.gov.za.

Our tools, such as the status decoder, the pay-window finder, the eligibility checker and the link checker, run entirely in your browser. What you type or choose stays on your device. It is not stored by us and it is not sent to us or to anyone else.

What data is processed

DataWhyNotes
Server and CDN logs: IP address, browser type, the pages you request and the time of each requestTo deliver the site, keep it secure and find faultsCreated by our hosting provider and content delivery network when you load a page
Analytics data: which pages are read and how people reach themTo see which guides help and improve themOnly if analytics is switched on, and only after you accept in the cookie banner. We have asked Google Analytics to anonymise IP addresses.
Your cookie choice: one value in your browser’s local storage under the key srdg-consentTo remember whether you accepted or declined analyticsStays on your device until you clear your browser data. We do not receive it.
Your language choice: a cookie called googtransTo keep the pages in the language you pickedSet only when you choose a language other than English. Google’s translation script then receives the page text to translate it. Choosing English removes the cookie.
Emails you send us: your email address and what you writeTo reply and to deal with any correction you reportOnly if you write to us

When analytics is switched on, a banner asks you to accept or decline. No analytics script loads unless you accept, and no analytics script loads if you decline. You can change your mind at any time with the “Cookie settings” button in the footer. Our cookie policy lists exactly what is used. The banner controls analytics only. Advertising is covered in the next section.

Advertising

  • The site uses Google AdSense to show ads on some guide pages. Ads never appear on this page or on our other trust and policy pages.
  • Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads, including ads based on your earlier visits to this and other websites.
  • You can see how Google uses data from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
  • You can turn off personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings (adssettings.google.com), or use the opt-out tools at aboutads.info.
  • Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland see a consent message from Google’s certified consent tool, where they can choose how their data is used for ads.
  • We do not choose individual ads, and we do not give advertisers any personal information, because we hold none.

Why we process your information

POPIA allows processing on certain grounds. We rely on two. The first is your consent, for analytics cookies and for personalised ads. You can withdraw it at any time. The second is our legitimate interest in running a secure, working website and in replying to the messages you send us.

How long we keep it

  • Logs are kept by our hosting provider for a limited period, under its own settings, and used for security and fault-finding.
  • Analytics data is kept in our Google Analytics account for as long as the retention setting we choose in that service allows.
  • Your cookie choice stays in your browser until you clear it.
  • Emails are kept for as long as we need them to reply and to handle any correction. We then delete them.

Who we share it with

We do not sell personal information. We share it only with:

  • the hosting provider and content delivery network that serve the site;
  • Google, for analytics (only after you accept), for advertising, and to translate a page (only when you choose a language other than English);
  • anyone the law requires us to share it with.

Children

This site is written for adults. It explains child-related grants for the adults who apply for them. It is not directed at children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you think a child has sent us personal information, tell us and we will delete it.

Your rights under POPIA

You have the right to:

  • ask whether we hold personal information about you, and ask for a copy;
  • ask us to correct or delete it;
  • object to us processing it;
  • withdraw your consent, using the “Cookie settings” button and Google Ads Settings.

To use any of these rights, email [email protected] with “Privacy request” in the subject line and say what you would like us to do. We may ask you to write from the same email address you used before, so that we can find your messages. We will never ask for your ID number. We aim to acknowledge your request within five working days.

You may also complain to the Information Regulator, which oversees POPIA in South Africa, at inforegulator.org.za. You do not have to contact us first.

Security

We keep the information we hold to a minimum, because the safest data is data we never collect. We take reasonable steps to protect the site and the small amount of information we do hold. No website or email service is completely secure, which is another reason never to send us your ID number, PIN, OTP or bank details.

International transfers

Google processes data on servers outside South Africa, and our hosting provider and content delivery network may too. For analytics and ad personalisation, this happens only with your consent where the law requires it. Page text sent for translation is processed by Google in the same way, but only when you choose a language other than English.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the site or the law changes. The date at the top of the page will change when we do, and we will say so at the top if the change is significant.
