If you are searching for how to reconfirm your SRD grant, the honest answer starts with what we do not have: an official SASSA step-by-step for a “reconfirm” button. What we do have is smaller, but it is verified, and it tells you how to stay safe when a prompt or a message says you must confirm something. This page keeps to what SASSA has published, labels everything else as reported, and says plainly where the gaps are.

What SASSA has actually published

  • SRD is reassessed every month. SASSA’s 2026 booklet says so, which is why a result can change from one month to the next without you doing anything.
  • The SRD home page has no “reconfirm” option in our screenshots. In June 2026 it listed apply, application status, e-KYC, change mobile number, reconsideration status, lodging an appeal, change banking details, names or surname update and cancel application.
  • Some situations require you to log in and act. People with a referred status must log in, request a link to update their information and complete the face check. If the status is approved but not paid, the applicant must request a verification link and complete facial recognition. Applicants who change their cellphone number must also complete it.

Those three are the nearest things to “being asked to confirm” that SASSA has written down. Reconsideration is a different matter. The portal said reconsideration was closed for May 2020 to March 2022, and our reconsideration guide covers it.

What readers say they see

Some readers report a “confirm existing application” prompt, or a message that tells them to confirm or update their details before a payment. We have not verified that screen or its wording, and SASSA has not described it. The portal can ask applicants to confirm or update details, and the e-KYC and names or surname update options on the home page are the likeliest places for that to happen. Treat anything beyond that as unconfirmed.

Reconfirm, reapply or appeal: which one is it?

How to respond safely if the portal asks you to confirm something

  1. Do not act on a message. If an SMS, a WhatsApp message or a social media post tells you to confirm your grant, close it, even if it looks official.
  2. Type srd.sassa.gov.za into your browser yourself. Never tap a link from a message to get there.
  3. Run a status check and take a screenshot of what it shows.
  4. Read what the portal really asks you to do. Follow the on-screen steps only. The application and the status check are free on the official portal, so a request for money is a red flag.
  5. Check your details before you confirm anything. Your names should match your ID, your phone number should be one you can receive SMS on, and your banking details should be an account in your own name. If a detail is wrong, use the portal’s own options: our guides cover changing your SRD phone number and changing your SASSA banking details.
  6. Complete the face check if the portal asks for it. If it fails, our guide to SRD identity verification failed explains the next step.
  7. Keep your screenshots and note the date, in case you need to phone the call centre later.
  8. Wait for the next monthly check to show a result. SASSA publishes no time for this. Do not reapply while you wait.
Safety note. Never share your PIN or OTP with anyone who says they are helping you “reconfirm”. Anyone who has the PIN can act on your application. The PIN belongs on the official portal and nowhere else.

How to keep your details ready for the monthly check

You cannot “reconfirm in advance”, but you can remove the usual reasons a month goes wrong:

  • Keep your cellphone number current. The number SASSA holds is the one that receives the PIN.
  • Keep your bank account open and in your own name. SASSA states that it cannot pay into another person’s bank account.
  • Make sure your names match your ID, with the same spelling.
  • Check your status at the start of each month and again later in the month. Each month has its own card.
  • Keep your application ID somewhere safe, with the date you applied.

What not to do

  • Do not pay anyone to reconfirm or to keep your grant “active”.
  • Do not tap a link in a message that says you must “reconfirm now or lose your grant”. Fake SRD sites exist, and SAnews has named two.
  • Do not reapply “just in case”. A second application can confuse the checks. SASSA does not publish how it treats duplicates.
  • Do not trust a site that asks for a PIN before it shows your status. On the page we captured, the status check asked for an ID number and a phone number only.

What about rumours that you must reconfirm or lose the grant?

We have found no SASSA statement that sets a reconfirmation deadline for SRD. The Department of Social Development said on 15 January 2026 that claims the SRD grant is ending are false. When a post makes an urgent claim, check it against sassa.gov.za or phone the call centre listed in our SASSA contact numbers guide before you do anything. Our official links and scam warning page shows which addresses SASSA treats as official.

What we do not know

We do not know whether SASSA runs a formal reconfirmation window for SRD. We do not know the exact wording of every prompt on the portal. We do not know how long after a confirmation a result changes. If SASSA publishes any of these, we will update this page and log the change on our corrections and updates page.
