The three December dates come from SASSA’s 2026/27 schedule, and we found no announcement of a change when we last checked on 25 October 2026. All three fall in the first four days of the month, which leaves the whole festive stretch for you to plan around.

December and January side by side

The January row matters just as much as December’s, because your December money has to last until then.

MonthOlder personsDisabilityChildren’s grants
December 2026 2 December 3 December 4 December
January 2027 5 January 6 January 7 January

Dates are paid on or after the day shown, and a weekend or public holiday moves a payment to the next working day.

If you were paid in the revised November cycle, see the November 2026 payment dates for how that month was moved. The January dates have their own page: January 2027 payment dates.

How the December holidays touch your payment

Payment dates are set by SASSA’s schedule, not by banks or shops. Three things are worth knowing.

  • A weekend or public holiday moves a payment to the next working day. That rule applies in December like any other month.
  • 16 December, 25 December and 26 December are public holidays. All three scheduled dates this month come before 16 December, and they fall on a Wednesday, a Thursday and a Friday, so none of them lands on a weekend.
  • We have found nothing that says SASSA will pay earlier or later than the schedule because of the season. A message promising an early payment is unconfirmed until you see it on a SASSA channel.

How fast money shows in your account, and what hours branches and retailers keep in December, is not something SASSA’s schedule tells you. Ask your bank, and check your statement for the arrival date.

Is there a festive relief grant for SRD?

You may have seen posts, videos or messages about a “SASSA SRD festive relief grant”, a December bonus or an extra payment. In the sources we checked on 25 October 2026, which include the SRD portal, the Department of Social Development’s schedule page and SAnews, no festive SRD payment has been announced. What is confirmed is the ordinary monthly SRD amount, R370, funded to 31 March 2027.

That does not mean one can never be announced. It means you should treat any claim as unconfirmed until you can verify it. In January 2026 the Department of Social Development also said that claims the SRD grant is ending were false, so rumours about the grant are nothing new.

How to check a festive grant claim

  1. Look for the same announcement on sassa.gov.za and srd.sassa.gov.za, and for news coverage on sanews.gov.za or gov.za.
  2. A genuine announcement will normally say who qualifies, how much is paid and when. A vague post that asks you to forward it to friends is a warning sign.
  3. Never type your ID number, PIN, OTP or bank details into a site you reached from a post or message. The SRD application and status check are free on the official portal.
  4. Report suspected fraud on SASSA’s anti-fraud line, 0800 701 701.
Fake sites are real.

SAnews named two fake SRD application sites in February 2025, srd-sassa.org.za and srdsassagov.co.za. Never share your PIN or OTP, and never pay anyone to apply for, check or speed up a grant. See our official links and scam warning page and our guide on whether the SRD grant will end in 2027.

Planning your December around the dates

This is a general suggestion, not financial advice. Count the days: for older persons, 2 December to 5 January is 34 days. For disability, 3 December to 6 January is 34 days, and for children’s grants, 4 December to 7 January is also 34 days. For each of the three grants, that is the longest gap between two payments anywhere in the 2026/27 table, and it includes the holidays.

A few practical steps:

  1. List your fixed costs for December and the date each one is due, then set them against your pay date.
  2. Pay the costs that cannot wait first, and decide in advance how much cash you need to withdraw rather than taking everything out at once.
  3. Keep your card and PIN to yourself, even when a queue is long and someone offers to help.
  4. Look at your statement the day after your date to confirm the money arrived.

For amounts and who qualifies, see grant amounts for 2026.

SRD in December: not published yet

SASSA does not publish a fixed SRD calendar. SRD is paid in a window, and your own pay day appears on your status card on the official portal. For December 2026 the window is Not published yet, and we will show it only once there is a source. Our SRD payment dates guide explains how to read your own card.

If your December payment is late

Start with the date for your grant in the table above, then your statement. If your date has passed and nothing arrived, contact SASSA’s toll-free call centre on 0800 60 10 11 or email [email protected], and say which grant it is and which date you expected it. The full SASSA payment dates hub lists the other months and the grant pages.
